I've had OptumRx since 2014. On January 1, 2017, OptumRx decided it was no longer going to cover the test strips for my meter.

My meter communicates through Bluetooth to my pump. The meter calculates the dosage, I press a button, the pump delivers the insulin. Cartridges and infusion sets are covered through UHC, UHC now owns OptumRx (if I recall), and somehow, they won't cover my test strips. And, UHC won't replace my pump until April or May of 2018.

The first time I called, I was told I needed to get my doctor to send them a prior authorization form. Doctor does so, claim denied, because it's not covered. The second time I called, I was told I needed to appeal the claim. I called a third time, to make certain, and was told that I could file an appeal, but it probably wouldn't be approved.

Well, thanks, rep. That's super helpful. Very encouraging.

So, I guess my only option is to buy them OTC at the local pharmacy for $180.00 for 100 of them. Yup, I'd like to spend all my FSA for this year just on that.

Product or Service Mentioned: Optumrx Customer Care.

Reason of review: Poor customer service.

Preferred solution: Let the company propose a solution.

I didn't like: Being discouraged from filing an appeal.
