Last week I had my annual visit with my cardiologist. We were looking for a non-statin drug to treat my high cholesterol.
He recommended a product called Zetia, and he assured me that there was a generic available. This evening, I received a package from OptumRX with my $188 Zetia prescription. They told me that the generic option wasn't covered by my plan. I asked if I could return this product that has only been pulled from the package.
No. But they can offer me a $40 credit. Really? If I had the option to go to a pharmacy - my pharmacist would tell me the price of the drug - at which point, I might say, yes, that's fine.
Or no. Let me see if there are any other options.
Why can't OptumRX provide that same service? This is inane.
