Optumrx is a nightmare. Unfortunately we are stuck with them because they come with United Health Care. They have:

1)Refused to refill a prescription a Dr sent in several times (despite that being the only Dr that prescribed the medicine) because they said it was too soon. These being 90 day prescriptions only, the Dr had said to increase the dose on the current prescription for a month to see if that helped the condition, but it created some undesirable lab results so the prescription amount was changed back down. Even though the medicine was used, under Drs orders, this company refused to refill the prescription under Drs orders (same Dr). And nope, was not a narcotic.

2) Their copay is almost always higher than other pharmacies cash price. Check to find the lowers price near you. Why are we paying for insurance and then paying more to get our medications thru the insurance?

3) They repeatedly *** orders. They get lost if you put them in the internet. They get lost if you have a representative enter them. They will refill something without you requesting it (and charge your credit card).

4) They threaten repeatedly if you do not get the prescription through them they will charge you a lot more or will stop covering the prescription. These threats are continual and constant. Their biggest excuse United Health Care will not cover it. Yet we get all prescriptions we can through other companies, only going to optumrx when the price savings are significant enough to tolerate the huge hassle to use them - which means only a couple prescriptions. United Health Care has yet to cut us off & accepts what we spend on prescriptions towards our deductible (Note, Optumrx threatens to go to that pharmacy and make them accept your insurance, insist with the pharmacy that this is not to be run thru insurance).

Preferred solution: make up for this with credit on future prescriptions.

I agree that they are a nightmare. They tried to tell me they wouldn't fill my prescription.

I had to speak to three different managers before I actually got someone reasonable on the phone. Horrible customer service!

I complained to my HR dept and they said they hear a lot of complaints about them. I hope they go out of business!


To be honest optum rx is a prescription benefit manager, they are not an insurance company. So if your insurance won't let the prescription go through optum rx is not responsible because your insurance saying its a refill to soon. You need to know what you are talking about before bad mouthing a company
